one week until the big IT conference At Orlando, Florida: Microsoft Ignite
Florida?, Yes we have heard about it. The hurricane Irma was coming and a lot of damage all over the land. You are going to Ignite? Like the other 26.000?
You won’t miss something.
OneDrive is finally growing up. And during Ignite Microsoft will announce one thing, many of you will have missed. And one Microsoft Manager has talked about that public.
The NGSC is ready for IRM
The Next Generation Sync Client will get the new functionality to sync IRM protected document libraries. Yes, you know, the old groove client have had this function lo0ng long time ago. And that was the reason, that some companies will sync still with the old client to Office 365.
But we stay and wait for the official announcement. For all people, which are going to Ignite, you will visit my to OneDrive sessions:
Ignite Session | expected attendees |
THR 3011 Upgrade your organization to the latest OneDrive sync client |

THR 3021 Why Microsoft is updating the new OneDrive sync engine in a different way |

and here some other news:
New View Mode for lists
The next days you will see a new View-Mode, it should rolled out completely until end of September. So you may have a web based view of lists (MC118075)
Support for # and % in SharePoint Online and OneDrive
Microsoft added support for # and % as supported characters in file and folder names across document libraries in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. They will begin rolling this feature out in October. This feature has been available for opt-in since earlier this year. They will begin turning this on-by-default to existing organizations, in October. The update will be completed by the end of March 2018. (MC118065)
Default link permission
Default link permission is a new Office 365 feature for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. You’ll begin seeing this feature in the coming days. Admins can default all sharing from the new sharing dialog to "view only" by default instead of edit (the current default). (MC117805)
New version of the Next Generation Sync Client
Noting new one. some people have noticed, some have send me an Email. And with the begin of the month September, there is a new version with the number: 17.3.6998.0830
Until today, no changes on the change log. It looks, that’s the normal monthly update. My change log is ready.
OneDrive for Business | new Version 17.3.6915.0529
The next version of the Next Generation Sync Client will be released in waves. I received the first Update on a Windows 8.1 device, today the same on a Windows 7 client, and I think we will have also this new version 17.3.6915.0529 also on Windows 10.
I will say Thank You for all new subscribers of my blog and for theses people here my advice: NO, you do not have to download this new Update manually and install the new sync engine over the old one. This process will be fully automatic. Every day, the NGSC is looking for a new version (and if Microsoft has set this version for release). If the answer is Yes, a file with name OneDriveSetup.exe will be downloaded, started and installed. Only on old and slowly machines you may feel, that an Update process is working and it takes a little while, until you may work with all functionality.
What has been changed?
Unfortunately I’m not able to write something about it, because there is no information about it. You do not find anything in the changelog, but I know, that Microsoft will publish some information about this new version.
So there is a huge step form the last version 147.3.6799.0327 to the new 17.3.6915.0529, but 116 version were built from Microsoft, but not released. For users running Windows 10 (with Creators Update), they may count 99 versions.
You will found an overview about all versions here.
And:
I will have some more information here at this blog post.
Next Generation Sync Client: Software boundaries and limits
Are you searching for boundaries and limits to the Next Generation Sync Client? You will found many information via Bing or Google, even if you search only on the Microsoft sites. And most of Microsoft sites do not have a date on the page, not every person may look into the HTML code and is able to read it. So it is not so easy to find the right page. and maintenance of published sites is complex, needs time… and it is easier, to write a new page, and again, without a date…
On the support sites of Office we find the right things:
SharePoint Online software boundaries and limits
So we see: SharePoint Online feature availability. Yes, that is right. Here you will find all limits to the current (and old) Office 365 plans for SharePoint. For example
File upload limit | 10 GB – 1 byte (10,737,418,239 bytes) per file. In classic mode, upload methods other than drag and drop have a 2 GB limit. |
Scroll down to the last section: Additional Resources
OneDrive for Business restrictions and limits | To learn more about restrictions and limits when using the OneDrive for Business (Groove.exe) sync client, see Restrictions and limitations when you sync SharePoint libraries to your computer through OneDrive for Business.
That’s the limits for the old Groove Client, Which you have to use right now for all SharePoint Server onPremises |
To learn more about restrictions and limits when using the OneDrive for Business Next Generation (OneDrive.exe) sync client, see Restrictions and limitations when you sync OneDrive for Business libraries through OneDrive for Business.
Here you find all limits to the Next Generation Sync Client (NGSC) |
Summary
You will see software boundaries for SharePoint Online, has nothing to do with syncing. If you use Groove.exe or OneDrive.exe as a sycn client you will have additional limits, you have to be aware.

400000 Zugriffe auf meinen Blog
Historie:
