OneDrive: Persistent Errors in Group Policy Descriptions

Hans Brender

t’s now been over thirteen months since I submitted an Excel sheet to the Microsoft OneDrive product group. That document detailed eighteen discrepancies across fifty-three group policies. Since then, some issues have been resolved, some policies removed. The total has dropped to forty-nine, but nine inconsistencies remain – untouched and still affecting administrators worldwide. With each update to the OneDrive Sync Client, Microsoft ships new or modified group policies. The following analysis is based on version 25.084.0501.0001 of the client. Below is a detailed breakdown of these problematic group policies – including misnamed IDs, incorrect registry paths, and poorly maintained … OneDrive: Persistent Errors in Group Policy Descriptions weiterlesen

OneDrive: Fehlerhafte Gruppenrichtlinien – ein Dauerärgernis

Hans Brender

However, not in its final form. The technology was not properly implemented until Windows 10, version 1710. Microsoft changed the New Technology File System (NTFS) of Windows 10 for this purpose. Correctly delete and restore files with OneDrive

Hans Brender

In my OneDrive workshops, which I hold for midsize and enterprise companies, the topic of deleting and restoring always leads to discussions. Deleting is so easy, but when it comes to restoring, administrators sometimes get confused. The truth is, once you understand how OneDrive’s file versioning works, restoring is straightforward, if a bit clunky. This is a republication of an article published by Tekkigurus, because Microsoft has implemented some changes in the last 24 months, and these have also been described in this article. The images have also been updated. The Scenario We have two users in the company (Hans … Correctly delete and restore files with OneDrive weiterlesen

OneDrive: new Sharing with expiration date

Hans Brender

In July 2024, I reported on this in the German M365 News Show. Unfortunately, it still contained errors. I reported these to the Microsoft OneDrive group in Redmond. Then the sharing was withdrawn. And it took quite some time, but now the new sharing with expiration date has been published again: Anyone Nothing has changed here. The administrator can specify a time limit for the anonymous link (can be forwarded) for the entire tenant (max. 730 days), which the user can only shorten and not extend. After the time has expired, the link becomes ineffective. So if anonymous sharing is … OneDrive: new Sharing with expiration date weiterlesen

OneDrive: neues Teilen mit Ablaufdatum

Hans Brender

Sharing with a temporary restriction

Hans Brender

The automatic closing of links has always been on the wish list of administrators. Because a closed link, or rather a link that no longer leads to the target, is one less vulnerability. But haven’t we already been through this? Yes, but only with an anonymous „external“ link. If the administrators allowed it at all, they could set a time limit for anonymous sharing. The maximum was 730 days, i.e. 2 years.I always mention this in workshops, but I suggest much shorter periods. As an administrator, I myself have specified 80 days. The user himself can shorten this time, but … Sharing with a temporary restriction weiterlesen

Teilen mit zeitlicher Einschränkung

Hans Brender

Das maximale waren 730 Tage, also 2 Jahre.

Was bedeutet unterschiedliche Ergebnisse? OneDrive: Colored folders not only in OneDrive

Hans Brender

First in OneDrive They were first seen in OneDrive (for Business). Colored folders. You could color each folder in OneDrive with just a few clicks in the browser. In addition to favorites, this is another way to improve the overview. The whole thing works not only in OneDrive, but also in SharePoint. Shared folders can also be color-coded, but only under „My Documents“. What provides an overview in OneDrive can very quickly turn negative. Because whenever a file is shared with others in the company. Because now the question arises, who has the right to assign a color to a … OneDrive: Colored folders not only in OneDrive weiterlesen
