[03/27/22 Update] several news and fixes at the end of the article!
Actually, the headline should be Windows 11 and an additional OneDrive button. Too long for a headline. On 02/17/22 Microsoft released a new Insider version of Windows 11 with build number 22557. There were lots of novelties, but don’t worry, I won’t report about these novelties.
All I have left is a new OneDrive feature, a button in Windows Explorer in the upper right corner. At first glance, the button is not recognizable as a button, it is a OneDrive icon in the upper right corner. Only the check mark next to it shows that there is a menu behind it. It is also not always visible, only when you click into a OneDrive area in Windows Explorer that is being synchronized.
It is important where you click on OneDrive in the Explorer beforehand:
in the range of…
- OneDrive Personal (Consumer)
- OneDrive for Business
- SharePoint Library

Depending on this, there are several multiple items in this menu, which I describe in three separate chapters.
OneDrive Personal
Top Left
The active sync status is displayed here

Center
In the middle we see the display in which area I clicked in Windows Explorer, so here OneDrive Personal. At the same time, the remaining free storage in the cloud is displayed.
Top Right (Arrow to the right)
If the sync client is still working, it makes sense to click the right arrow.

This opens the display of what is currently being synchronized or was recently synchronized. It also displays any errors or sync problems. This window also opens when we click on the OneDrive icon in the notification bar. However, the icon must be visible for this to happen. And many Users don’t have the OneDrive icon(s) in the notification bar. Also, it has changed recently, I have already published a separate article about it.
Bottom Left (Advertising)
Microsoft advertising is hidden behind the Get More storage button. Or the possibility to purchase additional memory or even a single or family license with a few clicks.
Bottom right (Online View and Properties)
There are two buttons in the lower right corner. There is the left button that takes us directly to the browser version (web version) of the selected part of OneDrive, in this case OneDrive Personal.

On the far right, the gear icon takes me directly to the OneDrive Personal settings.

As mentioned above, this worked before, but required three clicks.
OneDrive for Business
Top Left
The active sync status is displayed here.

Center
In the middle we see the display in which area in Windows Explorer I clicked before, so here OneDrive for Business. At the same time, the remaining free memory is displayed.
Top right (right arrow)
If the sync client is still working, it makes sense to click the right arrow.

As already described above, the display opens what everything is currently being synchronized or has been synchronized. This window also opens when we click on the OneDrive icon in the notification bar. But the icon must be visible. And many Users do not have the OneDrive icon(s) in the notification bar. A short time ago Microsoft also changed this window, I have already published a separate article about it.
Bottom Left
The advertising button in OneDrive Personal is missing at the bottom left.
Hello Microsoft: Here you could add a button to display the metadata like history, the share functionality, or a display with whom I have shared this directory/file.
Bottom right (Online View and Properties)
As in the OneDrive Personal version, there are also two buttons in the lower right corner. There is the left button that takes us directly to the online version (web version) of the selected part of OneDrive, in this case OneDrive for Business.

Here I save a whole lot of time. For those who synchronize several OneDrive for Business (maximum nine) on their computer, either had to catch the right icon in the notification bar, when hovering over the cloud the respective OneDrive for Business tenant name was displayed, click once and then click again in the opening window on the same view icon. Of course, this also worked in Windows Explorer, but here, too, three clicks are necessary.
And also identically, I reach the settings of OneDrive for Business directly with the gear icon. And also here exactly the right one

SharePoint Document Library
Everything I wrote for OneDrive for Business also applies to document libraries in SharePoint.

All other functions correspond to those of OneDrive for Business.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has failed to test the programs themselves. You click, nothing happens. Yes, something does happen. What is missing is that the window is brought to the foreground. That disturbs considerably.
The fact that instead of the SharePoint library OneDrive for Business storage is displayed and when clicking on the button to the online version OneDrive for Business opens by mistake, this must be changed.
Summary
The Microsoft OneDrive product group has confirmed to me that these bugs will be fixed by the next Windows 11 Insider version next month. But this new dialog box in Windows Explorer increases productivity significantly and manages to be directly in the web version with two clicks or to be able to make changes in the OneDrive settings. This was already possible in the past with Windows 11, but only with several clicks. With this functionality, Microsoft also accommodates those users who still work with desktop versions of Office products. Here, an easy way is created as a transition. The wish remains that this integration will also be carried out under Windows 10.
[Update 3/2/22] With the Insider Windows version 22567 at least the problem of the windows has been fixed.
