Vorsicht, Vorsicht, Vorsicht !!!
wie schon hier berichtet, ist SkyDrive für Windows 8.1 Preview in das Betriebssystem eingebunden. Aber unter den Benutzern sind schon viele Berichte in den verschiedensten Communities aufgetaucht, die mit der festen Verdrahtung von SkyDrive, gemeint ist das der Ort der Ablage fest unter C:\Benutzer\Benutzername\Sykdrive verdrahtet ist, und “derzeit” keine Möglichkeit besteht, diesen Ort zu verändern. Natürlich suchen die gewieften Experten z.B. in der Registry, und werden fündig.
zum Beispiel: Dr. Windows
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
oder andere versuchen, den Ordner mit einem Symbolischen Link umzuleiten
MKLINK /J C:\Users\<NAME>\SkyDrive D:\SkyDrive
Die eine oder andere Methode funktioniert, aber nicht bei jedem. Microsoft und die mit SkyDrive vertrauten Mitarbeiter warnen jedoch eindringlichst, diese Methoden anzuwenden. Der Schutz und Bestand Ihrer Daten ist sonst nicht mehr gewährleistet.
For obvious reasons, we simply can’t promise future features. They may be harder to implement that expected. Some EVEN HIGHER priority issue might arise and steal our developer time until the next release. We may all contract the flu and be out during the push to the final release. Or any other of a dozen reasons why we can’t provide some particular feature that you are asking for. But believe me that we aware of the demand for the feature where you can set or change the location of the SkyDrive folder.
To everyone who is struggling with the fact that you could set the file location in Window 8, but not in Windows 8.1 Preview: The expected behavior is that when you upgraded to Windows 8.1, the integrated SkyDrive would pick up the settings from the desktop client. So if you set the SkyDrive folder to be e.g. d:\SkyDrive, then after upgrade we should still be using d:\SkyDrive. We’ve seen a bunch of bugs showing that people are hitting an error case where we’re not successful in retaining these settings, but we’re still investigating the issue. That’s why you’re seeing some people saying it doesn’t work, and others saying it does.
Finally: to everyone trying to monkey with the registry. Please, don’t. 🙂
If there were a simple fix to reset the folder, we’d have provided it. The last thing we want is for users to lose their data, and there are ways that you can delete your data by doing this. Or if you are going to do so, please take precautions with your data, and know that what you are doing is not merely unsupported, it’s downright discouraged.
Zusammenfassung:
Wer sich mit der Preview von Windows 8.1 und dem neuen SkyDrive beschäftigt, und dies mit wichtigen Daten tut, der sollte die Finger vom Verschieben lassen. Der Ärger könnte sonst sehr groß sein. Microsoft weiß um diese “Unzulänglichkeit” und arbeitet schon daran.

With Windows 8, we already knew you could sync settings across multiple devices, but with 8.1 it has improved. You can backup settings that aren’t synced, and there are more settings to sync, including Start screen, installed apps, and app data. This is really helpful when installing Windows 8 on multiple machines.

You can’t upload any files larger than 300MB via the SkyDrive website though, so if you want to upload large files, you need to download and install the SkyDrive desktop app, which creates a SkyDrive folder in your File Explorer that syncs itself with your SkyDrive. You can drag and drop files or folders directly into the SkyDrive folder to upload them quickly, and this way you can also bypass the SkyDrive website file-upload limit of 300MB so that you can upload files up to 2GB in size. The SkyDrive desktop app works with Mac OS X Lion, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and even Windows 8, so it’s theoretically possible to have both the Windows 8 SkyDrive app and the SkyDrive desktop app installed and running on your PC simultaneously. This won’t cause any problems (if anything, it affords you more power to control how your PC shares files with SkyDrive), but it’s way more confusing than it needs to be.

Upgraded my laptop to windows 8.1 and skydrive app in metro desktop doesn’t show any folders. The live account is connected and from the skydrive settings it does show the accurate available space I’ve on the sky drive but no folders or files. Skydrive app in desktop mode works just fine.

Hoffe mal Microsoft macht da was Gescheites draus, weil bei Roaming-Profilen stelle ich mir das ganz spaßig vor. Wenn der Ordner schon fix im Userverzeichnis ist – dann sollte es wenigstens eine Umleitung geben – wobei dann der Pfad auch betreffend Synchronsierungscenter für mobile Geräte berücksichigt werden muss. Da wäre vielleicht idealer einen anderen Pfad pro Computer zu nutzen…
Ok, man konnte ja bisher schon mit den neueren Skydrive Versionen nur bestimmte Ordner synchronisieren, aber so ideal ist das IMHO auch nicht gelaufen – vor allem bei Tablet mit wenig Speicherplatz. Da sind mir bislang Laufwerksbuchstaben (Webdav) bei weiten lieber gewesen… …Office 2010/2013 braucht das zum Glück nicht.
